Review: Escobar III
Escobar III is one of the most interesting and exciting Crime and
Drama short film that I have ever experienced in my life. The film was released
in 2017, starring David Omo-Osoba and Kady Poulet. The plot of the film is
about a wealthy boy who is originally from a ghetto in Leyton, an area of East London.
Despite living in a difficult area, he has succeeded in his own ways. He built
his empire from selling drugs on the street to then,
become the biggest
drug dealer of the area. The day he decided to take an order away from his penthouse, is the day
trouble came his way, when an undercover police officer bought a stash from
him.
The location of the film is taking place in a field, in hidden
alleyways and in an old basketball court. The full storyline is based in East
London. The soundtrack is mostly based on UK grill music since the film is
based in the UK. The main song used in the film is called Escobar by the English artists Tion Wayne- Grind Don’t Stop . The
song really goes well with the film and really falls in line with the themes
and intro.
I would highly recommend to listen to Escobar if you are 15 or above. The film will have you at the edge
of your seat and you will not regret watching it on.

Assignment 17 – Induction - Task 6
How helpful was your analysis research on your
chosen theme?
My analysis was very helpful because I did a lots of research
on my own (music wise, movie wise and watched you tube tutorials) to find out
what would be the best and appropriate to add to my short film. By doing so, I
have learnt how to take different shots from different angles such as close up,
long shot and mid shot.
How helpful / successful was the pre-production
process?
I planned it out by writing up a plan sheet to help me to have a good
structure on the different steps I should follow for instance where the
location would take place, how we will share the task as a team, who will do
what (acting, directing, filming) and what would be the story line. As well, I
did this in order to know which equipment I would need for my acting part such
as a crutch and a fake drug pack. And for the filming part, I used a Panasonic
video camera.
How successful was your production (filming)?
I think for my first production it was quite successful now, I am aware
that I am lacking of experience as when I look at it, I realise what I could
have been done differently such as the way I hold the video camera because I handhold it
consequently, the images are moving and it gives a sense of queasiness. So this
is something I need to improve on by learning how to use the stand hold. Even
when my teacher gave me feedback, she mentioned that I need to be steadier when
holding the camera. On the other hand, it was successful because we
knew where to go, where to start for each sequences / scenes. As a team, I think we had good communication which
facilitated the way we worked together and enabled us to produce a good piece of
work.
Discuss strengths and weaknesses of you’re a-B
Story making reference to the codes and conventions of other factual programmes
you have seen
I took lot of my inspiration from the TV show Power
this is why there are several similarities and differences between my films
Escobar and Power in terms of the features for example with the camera work,
the settings and the costumes. These two films depict the street life and how
it is viewed from inside and outside. The art of the camera work has a big
effect in both films.
Audience feedback
What the audience liked the most was the choice of the music and the
fact that I used different music for different sequences. The audience also
said that they felt I was acting seriously and were surprised because in real
life they see me as not being as serious.
Also some of the feedback were around the fact that I should have use
different camera shots to create mystery. Even though I watched you tube
tutorials videos, I know that I need further practice on how to shoot from
different angles.
What improvements could you have made?
As mentioned above, I need to improve on how to use a stand hold, on how to make it more dramatic because
it looks like it is missing of action and dynamism. I do feel the film is lacking of suspense and
danger but I wanted to show how it is when dealing drugs in the real setting of
street life.

Theme songs
The theme song that they used in this TV show is 50 cent- Big
Rich Town (Feat. Joe) this is the main song that they use for this TV show that
every part of the show they show that
something is going to happen they play this song and also this song is
the main song that they use also they use this for things that are very
interesting, they want everyone to find out what going on when they a scene
that happing that someone is going to die. This theme is one of the common and
best songs that is in the world and also they used this so they didn’t need to
pay anyone money to play their song on the Tv show and they
Talking
about what the story is about?
Power is a TV
drama show which has many different storylines, but I’m looking at season 4 episode
10 from section 44.10 cut in to 50.53 this is showing what is going on in the
scene. Some of the camera angles are
fast pace shots and it’s a two shot with two people who were Tyrek and ray ray,
the use of two shot increases the tension between the characters because the
camera is going back and forwards between them.
Camera
shots?
The cross
cutting is when they are running up the stairs when the camera is cutting
between different kind of parts in the scene to show the movement of what the
characters are doing how Tyrek goes in the flat then goes up the to meet ray ray
in in the house and when Ghost, Tyrek father goes to the scene and see Tyrek
going up towards ray ray and the shot they got him while he was standing and
looking towards door of the flat it was a side shot while he was looking at the
door, the shot is when Tyrek goes next to the door and try and find a way to
get inside the flat and the camera shot that they got him standing like his the
boss and its looking like his going to do something really crazy and he looked
like he didn’t really care what was going to down for the crime that he going
to commit.
This shot
when he was next to the flat door it’s a low angle mid shot because it’s shot
from the waist upwards. In the scene a point of view shot is used to capture a
first person view to make the audience feel as if they are in the characters
perspective.
Sounds/sound
effects?
The sound
that they was using in this scene is a action sound that something is going to
happen the music is the background is a terror song that is making the audience
feel some kind of way and they need to understand what is going to happen in
this part of the song also its showing how the characters are showing the body
language so we know what they are actually feeling and also it can make us feel
the same thing as the St. Patrick family are feeling. What Tyreke goes and
kills the Ray Ray guy in house also the music changes when they are going to
back to the house. While are in house the song changes while are going inside
the house and i0n this scene they Are doing a
voice over and they are showing what they are doing and playing a calm
music in the background and while Tyrek is going to change and the song while
his doing what he needs to do.
