Evaluation

David Omo-Osoba
Assignment 17 – Induction - Task 6

How helpful was your analysis research on your chosen theme?

My analysis was very helpful because I did a lots of research on my own (music wise, movie wise and watched you tube tutorials) to find out what would be the best and appropriate to add to my short film. By doing so, I have learnt how to take different shots from different angles such as close up, long shot and mid shot.
How helpful / successful was the pre-production process?

I planned it out by writing up a plan sheet to help me to have a good structure on the different steps I should follow for instance where the location would take place, how we will share the task as a team, who will do what (acting, directing, filming) and what would be the story line. As well, I did this in order to know which equipment I would need for my acting part such as a crutch and a fake drug pack. And for the filming part, I used a Panasonic video camera.

How successful was your production (filming)?

I think for my first production it was quite successful now, I am aware that I am lacking of experience as when I look at it, I realise what I could have been done differently such as the way I  hold the video camera because I handhold it consequently, the images are moving and it gives a sense of queasiness. So this is something I need to improve on by learning how to use the stand hold. Even when my teacher gave me feedback, she mentioned that I need to be steadier when holding the camera. On the other hand, it was successful because we knew where to go, where to start for each sequences / scenes. As a team, I think we had good communication which facilitated the way we worked together and enabled us to produce a good piece of work.

Discuss strengths and weaknesses of you’re a-B Story making reference to the codes and conventions of other factual programmes you have seen

I took lot of my inspiration from the TV show Power this is why there are several similarities and differences between my films Escobar and Power in terms of the features for example with the camera work, the settings and the costumes. These two films depict the street life and how it is viewed from inside and outside. The art of the camera work has a big effect in both films.

Audience feedback

What the audience liked the most was the choice of the music and the fact that I used different music for different sequences. The audience also said that they felt I was acting seriously and were surprised because in real life they see me as not being as serious.
Also some of the feedback were around the fact that I should have use different camera shots to create mystery. Even though I watched you tube tutorials videos, I know that I need further practice on how to shoot from different angles.

What improvements could you have made?

As mentioned above, I need to improve on how to use a stand hold, on how to make it more dramatic because it looks like it is missing of action and dynamism. I do feel the film is lacking of suspense and danger but I wanted to show how it is when dealing drugs in the real setting of street life.

  1. Good so far David, you have completed and uploaded all work for your induction assignment.
You have worked very hard and have produced a good short film and pre-production evidence.

To improve on future projects - keep to deadlines! Future assignments + missed deadlines = fail. Stay focused in lesson on what we are learning instead of trying to catch up on what we have done already.
